| Q1: What area of the country
does DPS cover?
Primarily
the southeastern United States from Louisville, KY to the north and west;
Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee, the Carolinas, Alabama and Florida. |
| Q2: Do you charge stewards
or have annual dues for stewards to participate in your organization?
No,
there are no membership fees or costs involved. |
| Q3: Does DPS have
a 'uniform' or dress code?
No.
We do expect all of our stewards to be dressed in appropriate attire presenting
a professional image. |
| Q4: Does DPS pay
its stewards?
Yes.
A pay scale is consistent with experience and circumstances. |
| Q5: May I steward and
show my dogs at the same show?
Yes,
although DPSis most particular about a steward not working for a
judge to whom he/she might be showing in the same cluster or companion
shows. |
| Q6: Does DPS allow
me time to show my dog or dogs?
Yes.
Schedules are prepared prior to the show date to accommodate the individual
stewards showtime, which provides relief for that period of time. Pay rates
for that day will fluctuate, depending upon circumstances. |
| Q7: I am a judge, may
I steward for
DPS?
Yes,
although a judge may not steward at any cluster or set of companion shows
prior to their judging assignment. |
| Q8: I've never stewarded,
does DPS provide training or must I go 'cold' into the ring?
DPS
will provide appropriate training with one of our senior stewards until
we feel the trainee is ready to cope with routine ring situations and responsibilities. |
| Q9: Why should my club
use your services?
Often
volunteers lack the sense of importance of the role of the steward in the
smooth functioning of the ring. The lack of commitment, of punctuality,
of tools and skills not only makes the operation of the ring difficult
it can effect the entire show timing.
Further,
volunteers seldom have the experience to anticipate exhibitors and/or judges
needs. This can create bad will for both judge and exhibitor as well as
spectators and thusly for the club which might well impact future show
entries. |
| Q10: What services does
a club receive from a professional organization?
Well
trained, responsible, show ring knowledgeable personnel, well acquainted
with the rules and ring procedures of the American Kennel club. |
| Q11: How is cost determined?
Terms
of the cost to a show-giving club or cluster are spelled out in a formal
contract in almost all cases determined by the number of rings. |
| Q12: Does DPS provide
services for specialty club shows?
Yes. |
| Q13: Does
DPS provide stewards for Obedience and/or Rally events?
Yes.
We provide the appropriate number (as required by AKC) of skilled stewards
fully cognizant of all rules and regulations. |
